Alain Delon – the infamous actor of French cinema

The 83-year-old actor was in jail, caught in a scandal against his wife and children, adultery, homophobia.

At Cannes Film Festival 2019, Alain Delon is awarded the “Honorary Palme d’Or” award. According to Euro News, many people think he is not worthy of being honored for many scandals in the past. An objection to the award for the actor to receive more than 25,000 signatures on the Internet.

From the soldiers expelled to the silver screen star

Alain Delon was born in 1935 at Sceaux, a small commune on the French Seine. Alain’s parents divorced when he was four years old. In childhood, the actor was repeatedly expelled for mischief. Mother and stepfather often have to find a new school for him. At the age of 14, Alain decided to drop out of school and ask to work at his stepfather’s slaughterhouse. In 1942, he joined the navy and fought in Indochina. Because of his military discipline, Alain was imprisoned for a year by the government and expelled from the army in 1956.

According to the Gentleman’s Gazette, the actor returned to France, living with jobs like waiters and deliveries. Handsome thanks, he caught the eye of Brigitte Auber in a meeting. Brigitte asked Alain to attend the Cannes Film Festival and here the actor’s film career began. Through Brigitte’s introduction, he met manager David Selznick and became an actor under his management. At the request of the boss, Alain went to Paris to study English. He took his first role in the movie  (released in 1957) by director Yves Allégret.

Alain continued to have many successful roles. He worked with top European directors of the time, such as Luchino Visconti, Jean-Luc Godard, Jean-Pierre Melville, Michelangelo Antonioni or Louis Malle. Alain is often chosen for young, dynamic, talented men but gradually becomes corrupted by morality. He is also famous for his gentle lover or romantic hero.
